Earlier this week, we, along with Cape Air
and Fort Wood Hotels
, announced the winner of our 2017 travel scholarship to two deserving high school seniors in the Fort Leonard Wood Region.
The winners are:
Alassandra Wright, Laquey High School
Noah R. McCaulley, Waynesville High School
Each of them had great letters and provided us with interesting insight into why it would be important for their family members to join them for their high school graduation ceremonies. Specifically, Alessandra told us:
"My family has seen pictures and have been updated about everything I have done, but they have never actually been able to be there. My parents would love for their parents to see their accomplishment, me, as well."
We spend a lot of time serving the military community and we understand that Alassandra's story is not unique to her. As April is the Month of the Military Child
, we feel it is important to remember that military kids like Alassandra, move every two or three years,
meaning they could possibly attend 6-9 different schools before high school graduation. Usually, these moves are far from family and can be stressful and challenging for military children. We hope, in a small way, that this scholarship helps alleviate some of that stress and challenge.
We can't wait for these families to take advantage of the scholarship and see them at the airport soon! Congratulations to both of our recipients - enjoy your graduation surrounded by family!
