Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri – February 12, 2019
– On February 12, Contour Airlines made their debut at the Waynesville-St. Robert Regional Airport with an official ribbon cutting ceremony and a 10 a.m. departure for the inaugural flight.

Twenty-nine local elected officials, community leaders, and members of the media were aboard the first jet service flight, along with the Contour crew and Contour chief executive officer Matt Chaifetz. The inaugural passenger group flew to St. Louis, enjoyed lunch at the Crowne Plaza, and then returned to Fort Leonard Wood.

Bringing jet service to the region has been a long-time goal of the Sustainable Ozarks Partnership and the surrounding communities. The new jet service more than doubles the previous commercial air transportation capacity into and out of the region.

“This enhanced transportation access to our region will have a huge impact on the quality of life of our citizens, enhance Fort Leonard Wood’s military mission, boost tourism in the region, and help diversify our local economy. We are very proud of our region’s accomplishment in bringing this easily accessible, affordable and convenient means of transportation to our great midwestern community. We are confident that this will have a major impact on the future of Fort Leonard Wood and the four-county region around the installation,” said SOP team member Dorsey Newcomb.

The jet service, officially announced in January 2019, will provide daily flights between the Fort Leonard Wood Region and St. Louis. Each flight will seat 30 people and take less than 30 minutes. Ticket prices will range from $39 - $99. Contour provides service in seven states and passengers can expect comfortable seating, a beverage and snack service, as well as a complimentary first checked bag for each passenger.

The Waynesville-St. Robert Regional Airport is located on Fort Leonard Wood and is one of two Army joint use airports in the country. The airport is open to the general public for normal commercial travel and also provides general aviation services. For more information or to purchase tickets, go to www.flyflw.com.

The Sustainable Ozarks Partnership is building on the Fort Leonard Wood Region’s strong past and preparing the region for a healthy, resilient future. We are a nonprofit organization working to bring all of the region’s stakeholders to the table to drive regional development and advocate for new or expanded military and federal missions, all as part of our efforts to strengthen the Fort Leonard Wood region.
