On March 4-6 leaders and community members from defense communities around the United States will converge on Miami, Florida for the Association of Defense Communities (ADC) 2019 Installation Innovation Forum (IIF).
The forum is “designed to bring together installation leadership with their community counterparts and top industry experts to share ideas and learn about tangible ways to advance innovation at your base and community,” according to the IIF event website.
This year’s keynote speaker is the Honorable Robert McMahon, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Sustainment. Other notable attendees include Lt. Gen. Bradley Becker, Commanding General, Installation Management Command, and Lt. Gen. Gwen Bingham, Assistant Chief of Staff for Installation Management.
The event will include a town hall session with Secretary McMahon, as well as several workshop sessions focused on installation partnerships, technology, and resilience. Not only is the event a great place to learn about new ideas, it also provide local Fort Leonard Wood Region leaders a chance to build relationships with other defense communities and learn about best practices.
This year’s event will offer a new track specifically geared toward military installation commanders and their staff where they can focus on topics like ensuring quality education options for military families, military spouse employment, and a workshop focused on joint service intergovernmental support agreements.
The Sustainable Ozarks Partnership intends to lead a group from the Fort Leonard Wood Region to this year’s forum; however, getting to this year’s event will be even easier for the group as they’ll be able to take advantage of the new jet service from Ft. Leonard Wood to St. Louis and then grab a direct flight into Miami International Airport. This improved service will reduce the time the group spends on the road and in additional airports allowing them to make the trip in a more efficient manner.
