Our team is getting very excited about this week’s U.S. Army Engineer Best Sapper Competition that is part of Engineer Regimental Week. The week is full of exciting and memorable events, but if you’ll be in town to celebrate and are looking for some other fun things to do, we can help!
Hoppers Pub: Hoppers Pub is in downtown Waynesville and is the perfect pit stop after antique shopping or if you want to catch up with old friends over dinner. They have fun events scheduled during the week, like trivia nights, live music, and regular food and drink specials. If you haven’t been, we definitely recommend checking it out!
Mama Mia’s: This restaurant features great Greek cuisine and is conveniently located to many of the hotels in St. Robert. It makes for a fun family dinner spot or a place to grab a quick bite. They have a wide variety on the menu and offer great healthy options.
Z Bar & Grill: Conveniently located with the ZLoft Hotel, which makes you feel at home for an extended stay, this restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating options and daily specials. They offer a full bar and enjoy accommodating large groups.
Ozark Tavern: The Ozark Tavern is a new restaurant located on Fort Leonard Wood. They offer a full bar and a varied menu including appetizers, salads, and other great options. If you’re on Fort Leonard Wood for events this week, take your crew by and tell them the Waynesville-St. Robert Regional Airport sent you!
Matt’s Steakhouse: If your group is looking for an upscale steakhouse that can accommodate large groups, Matt’s is the place to be. Their menu is amazing and their service is impeccable. They can also host small and large groups, so if you’re planning a reunion give them a call.
Fun Activities for Families or Groups:
Hike to Alley Spring and Mill: This mill is located on the Alley Spring and was built in 1893. It is part of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways and our National Park System, so make sure to take advantage of the entry discounts offered by the NPS. The mill is open for visitors every day from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but you can hike out to the mill and see the spring anytime.
Golf: The Piney Valley Golf Course on Fort Leonard Wood is an 18-hole, par 72 course that is challenging, but also fun to play. The clubhouse also features a pro shop and a place to grab a quick meal. Green fees and tee times can be made by calling the course.
Mahaffey Museum Complex: You’re probably familiar with the museum complex on Fort Leonard Wood, but it’s always good to do a walk through when you’re in town. The staff does a great job of updating the exhibits on a regular basis and we’re sure you might see something or learn something new.
Bowling: Really, Fort Leonard Wood’s entire MWR team does a great job of offering recreational offers on the installation. The Daugherty Bowling Center offers 40 lanes, a pro shop, and a great full-service snack bar. You can also learn more about the installation’s recreation options, like go-karts and mini-golf on their website.
Also, before you arrive - or while you’re here - make sure to keep an eye on the Explore Fort Leonard Wood Facebook page for tips on some fun local events. Enjoy this week’s festivities and we hope to see you at the airport soon!
