Our 2025 Travel Bucket List Recommendations

The new year is here and that means its time to look forward to fun travel adventures throughout 2025! We’re sharing our top five travel bucket list destinations for the coming year to inspire you to share your travel plans or make some travel arrangements to explore one of these top spots. Without further delay, here are our top picks!

  1. Utah. The beautiful state of Utah includes five national parks and 11 national monuments, historic sites, and recreation areas. There are limitless hiking trails, incredible opportunities to observe nature, and larger cities filled with museums, theaters, and other entertainment attractions. If you fly into Salt Lake City, don’t miss the opportunity to dip your toes into the Great Salt Lake and enjoy the incredible beauty of Antelope Island State Park. A winter visit provides access to fantastic skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing opportunities, and a summer visit allows for an adventure through The Narrows in Zion National Park, as well as hiking, golfing, rafting and fly fishing. There just isn’t a bad time to visit this beautiful state!

  2. Michigan. Don’t sleep on the Great Lakes State! A visit to Michigan could include some salt and shark free beach time, paddling through the Chain of Lakes Water Trail, or biking through the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail. Nature lovers will enjoy all that Michigan has to offer, but if you’re a big city person, Detroit, Lansing, and Grand Rapids have you covered. You’ll find shopping, fine dining, and art museums. The whole family can also explore the Motown Museum, the Ford Rogue Factory, or the Detroit Zoo. And don’t leave without tasting Detroit-style pizza!

  3. New Orleans. While this may not initially sound like the perfect family trip, New Orleans can be a great family vacation. You’ll find one of the best zoos in the country in New Orleans, along with amazing food and great museums. If your kids are old enough or you have great strollers and enjoy walking, look into a walking tour of the French Quarter or one of New Orleans’ famous cemeteries. We advise avoiding Mardi Gras and visiting in the fall, winter, or spring for the best experience.

  4. Puerto Rico. This American territory can’t be beat if you’re looking for a tropical island getaway without the need for a passport! You’ll get the opportunity to enjoy beautiful beaches, fresh seafood, and the most amazing sunsets. Head outside San Juan to hike through El Yunque, the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System. This forest is also a sacred place in Puerto Rican culture. Make time to meander through Old San Juan. Duck in shops, taste a pina colada, and grab a souvenir or two. Leave time to take in the island’s amazing military history, including the fortification commonly known as El Morro.

  5. Washington, D.C. There are so many reasons to visit Washington, D.C. that we don’t know where to start. Our nation’s capital is filled with endless Smithsonian museums that are free for all visitors, an award-winning zoo, and delicious restaurants offering all types of cuisine. Contact your elected representative ahead of your visit to arrange a visit of the Capitol building and to get a chance to view the Senate or House chambers. You can also look into reserving a time for a White House tour. Don’t forget your walking shoes - you’ll need them to see all of the impressive outdoor monuments and memorials, as well as Arlington National Cemetery. For the best D.C. experience, avoid the middle of the summer when there are more tourists, very warm weather, and lots of mosquitos.

While these destinations are our favorites, there are infinite places across America to explore with your family…and with daily direct flights to Chicago and Dallas, you can get to your destination quicker and more easily! Eliminate the hassle of a larger airport and/or hours in the car by choosing to fly from the WSRA.

Have you taken an epic family vacation? Where did you go and what destination would you recommend? We’d love to hear your thoughts and learn more about your travel experiences!
